swoon finish & more!

There's been a fair bit going on round here since my last post! First up is I finally completed my #6 Swoon block:

I'd be lying if I said that this was easy for me! I had to unpick and re-sew numerous times simply due to lack of concentration and a fuddled baby brain!! To be honest making this quilt was becoming a chore, it was this fact that prompted me to decide whether to do the full 9 blocks or leave it at 6. After much discussion with my Twitter buddies I decide on 6 blocks with wider sashing down the longer sides.

Here's my final layout:

I really like it like this but am wondering whether to add a scrappy border in Anna Maria Horner fabrics. What do you think??

This weekend also saw me start my next quilt project, Whirlygig from Sarah Fielke's book 'From Little Things'. This is a hand appliqued lap quilt which I thought would be great for when the baby arrives and my machine time is limited! Here's a shot of scrap auditioning for the appliqued flowers and leaves:

And here's where I'm at just now:

The central background fabric is from the Reunion collection by Sweetwater, it's a red herringbone and the bias binding vines are turquoise spotty! Looking at this picture I can see some vines are longer than others so I'll have to trim them!!! So far I've hand sewn down 3/8 vines!

In non-sewing news for this weekend we collected the baby's pram. I am so in love with it, its fab!

It's an iCandy Peach in Tomato and we got the seat unit too for when Hunter's a little older. It's a really sturdy pram so I can walk the dogs without fear of them pulling it over!!

I also began to Smash in my journal, here are a couple of example pages:

Finally I just wanted to let you know that my posts may become a bit more sporadic over next couple of weeks!! I found out yesterday that I have dangerously low iron levels and am on bed rest. I have to see the Obstetric Consultant on Friday but it's looking like I'll need a transfusion and my planned home birth is off until I'm sorted and well again. Gutted does not describe how I feel right now :(

  1. Your swoon looks lovely! A scrappy border would be fab! I hope your consultant sorts you out in time for your planned birth but if not I just hope that you soon feel much better and well enough to enjoy your new arrival! Take care xxx

  2. Looking good Justine! My tip with your vines - don't stitch down right to the end at this stage, leave an inch or two unsewn, then when you put the flowers on you can position the flowers by measuring the vines, and trim any excess. It's going to look beautiful and you're going to love making it! Sorry to hear you're on bed rest, though good that you won't have too much longer to wait to meet your little man! Can't wait to 'meet' him too! D xxx

  4. Swoon blocks look fab and I think a scrappy boarder will enhance the yumminess.

Low iron is horrible - having been anaemic myself I feel for you. It makes you feel rubbish :-(

  5. I am amazed you get so much sewing done late pregnancy alone is so tiring, low iron levels on top of that!! The transfusion has a huge and quick effect though, makes you feel so much better. Hopefully then you will maintain your iron levels and get the go ahead for your home birth! All fingers and toes are crossed for you here! :) xx

  6. Oh, good luck with the iron and your home birth plans.....things have an annoying way of not going as you'd hoped sometimes.....I had to go onto an antibiotic drip and have my platelet levels tested as soon as I went into labour with Katie, kind of scuppered the water birth I wanted again. I do hope the transfusion, if you have it, helps and your iron levels stay up.
Pushchair looks fabby - we have an icandy apple/pear which is perfect for swapping between double and single when I have my niece and nephew. Sturdy and easy to push.
So pleased to hear the goodies arrived, hope they are useful! Juliex

  8. Sorry to hear about the bed rest. I was on bed rest for the last three weeks with my oldest and then had to have a transfusion after the birth. Not fun at all and I can totally sympathise with you feeling gutted. It will be worth it in the end though. xx

  14. Really sorry to read about the low iron, I do hope you are getting enough bed rest and not tempted to do too much, which I know is very hard when the kids are around.

    Nice pram, love the colour.

    Keep well, Bethx
