Wedding Love........

Now I had a little thought today whilst I was brainstorming ideas for wedding presents for the lovely Mr. G.......

I've been struggling with what to get him as (like everyone else) money is tight at present, saving for the holiday of a lifetime and the wedding has really drained our resources and not left me with much to play with in terms of getting him a special gift.

We've not talked about getting each other gifts but I really do want to give him something on this momentous occasion, he's such a doll and honestly he deserves a medal (if only for putting up with me!). He picks up the pieces of my wildly busy life - whilst I try being a special care nurse, mummy to two young children (one with special needs and all that that entails) and on top of that now I've found a huge passion for sewing and blogging - the poor man often doesn't get a look in!

He never grumbles though (sometimes he hides the laptop and blames the kids) and he pays genuine interest when I make him read some of my favourite blogs, he listens to me waffle insanely about fabric design and never goes mad when he reads the bank statement and realises how much I spent this month on fabric (he says he feels like Courtney aka Seamstar is part of the family) and he takes great pleasure in seeing my face when I make something I love (his words not mine!). He's a great dad and the kids adore him (as do I I've just realised), so anyway my idea.....

How cool would it be to give him some handmade wedding themed goodies from my lovely online blog friends???? I'm open to ideas and really I'm not expecting freebies, I'd be happy to pay for your services if you think you can help!

So if you're up for a little challenge to help me make our wedding day extra special for the fab 'Mr. G' then please leave me a comment. I don't want big ideas just a few little handmade items that will put a smile on his face that we can display in our home afterwards would be immense.

I really do hope some of you will be able to help me, it would mean a great deal to me....

  1. I would love to do something! I did a 70 present challenge for my mums 70th birthday and lots of bloggers sent me lovely things so I would be happy to give something back to someone else. Do you have any photos of him and/or your children you could email me. I've got some of that photo transfer paper and been meaning to try it out on fabric for ages. Maybe I could do a manly photo cushion or something. Not thought this through at all but willing to give it a go. Have lots of ideas for very cheap little thoughtful gifts if you want some?

Hi Jo, thanks for getting back to me so quickly! Mr. G likes the mini plaque you did for me so could you do a heart shaped one that says Mr & Mrs Henshaw? I'll let you know the colours when I've had another look on your blog and decided!! Thanks again, Justine xx

  11. Justine - does he like coffee and use a cefetierre? I have been intending to make a cafetierre cosy for a few people - would he like a linen one with some blue/green binding around the bottom (or something along those lines!)?
Its a lovely idea and your wee post shows how much you mean to each other.

  18. Hi justine. Have you thought of doing a wedding plate at a ceramic cafe/paint your own pot shop. The one near us lets you take a plate to the wedding, get the guests to sign it, then you take it back for them to glaze and fire. It makes a great keepsake.

  19. Hiya Justine,

Only catching up on blogland now otherwise I would have posted sooner.

I personally suck at choosing gifts! My current sewing resume includes laptop sleeves, coffee cup holders etc not very wedding gift material, however I would be happy to make a little something if there is anything in particular you want?

How are the dresses coming along?

  20. Congratulations on your coming wedding - how exciting.
I love what you've written about your hubby to be, how he ignores the bank balance and smiles at what you create, sounds just like mine, they're a gem.
Men are difficult to sew for, I've never made anything for Mr D, naughty me!
    Good luck in your quest!
